Old Chinese 152 X 252 cm (CHI105) is a type of Chinese handmade rug that is ornamental and symbolic, influenced by Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian thought. It is tightly woven and durable, usually a shade of red in colour with floral patterns.
In Xinjiang, carpet weaving is an age-old traditional craft requiring superb skill to create the carpets which are famous all over the world. Hotan County, renowned for its jade, is also the home of Xinjiang's carpet weaving trade. Carpet weaving techniques from Xinjiang were also introduced to China along with carpets, and served to stimulate interest in carpet making, so that by the time of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), carpets were being commonly produced in many regions throughout China.
Chinese handmade rugs have kept their original designs but have changed their motifs to something a little more modern to keep with the fashion in today's society, such motifs are dragons & flowers.
